Women's Wellness Network: Advancing Health Access and Awareness in Southeast Georgia
In 2024, the Women's Wellness Network (WWN) made significant strides in promoting women's health in Evans and Tattnall Counties. Through new partnerships and dedicated outreach, WWN expanded its efforts and initiatives to address critical health needs in the community.
This year, the WWN secured the Rural Health Network Development Planning Program grant, which supports developing networks to improve capacity in order to strengthen rural community health interventions and enhance care coordination to improve healthcare access and share resources in rural areas. This grant enabled WWN to enhance its capacity by increasing collaboration among partners who had not worked together much before and refine its collective strategy for meeting the community's unique healthcare and service needs. The Eat Well Evans initiative, a mini grant program, was launched to provide resources and education on healthy nutrition, encouraging community members to make informed dietary choices. It's goal is to help make the healthy choice the easy choice. Additionally, October marked an impactful Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The events emphasized early detection and provided education on self-exams and mammogram access while sharing local resources. WWN distributed information, hosted community events, and collaborated with local organizations to make mammogram screenings more accessible to women. One event to highlight is A Night Out With Her, which brought together healthcare professionals for a panel discussion on breast cancer prevention, treatment, and recovery.
Throughout the year, WWN provided bi-monthly newsletters with updates on various healthcare topics, local resources and upcoming events. The East Georgia Healthcare Center mobile unit was instrumental in bringing essential screenings, such as blood pressure checks, directly to underserved areas at two events. This collaboration allowed WWN to increase blood pressure awareness and screening access, supporting early identification and intervention for hypertension. Through these efforts, the Women's Wellness Network reinforced its role as a vital community resource, delivering health education and screening information and connecting residents with essential healthcare services.
