The Recovery Lens Photovoice Project

The Recovery Lens Photovoice Project, funded by the Ware County Board of Health through Share Health Southeast Georgia, explores substance use disorder (SUD) recovery in Pierce, Brantley, and Ware counties. Using photovoice methodology, community members documented their recovery journeys and local resources, highlighting both strengths and challenges in overcoming SUD.

About the Project:

Substance use disorder is a significant public health issue in rural Georgia, with rising opioid and methamphetamine misuse. Stigma around addiction in these areas discourages individuals from seeking treatment. This project, using a participatory action research approach with participants, aims to identify barriers to recovery, reduce stigma, and leverage community strengths. Through photovoice sessions, participants capture images of their experiences, which are analyzed using the Social Ecological Model to explore the various influences on recovery.
